Diapers are pricey at about $34.99 per box. Imagine having to choose between food for your family and diapers for your baby! Help a Mother Out set out to solve this problem by working with social safety-net programs––CalFresh and Calworks––to ensure that no parent would ever need to choose. When First Five and Help a Mother Out asked if Sunset Youth Services would be willing to be a diaper distributor, we jumped at the chance. Being in close relationship with local families means we're poised to get diapers into the hands of those that need them most.
“As more and more places are reopening, it's a perfect time to connect with families and community,” says Carrie Peng, SYS Family Success Coach.
Twice each week on Mondays and Wednesdays, between 10am-1pm, SYS distributes 2 boxes of diapers per month to eligible San Francisco families from the Sunset Family Resource Center (SFRC) located at 3223A Ortega Street (behind the Ortega Library). “The diaper bank can also include wipes from time to time. WIC helps with formula and healthy food for pregnant and nursing mothers,” says Maria Dajani, SYS Family Success Coach.
While distributing diapers, SYS can offer families additional support, including weekly groceries, hot meals, and positive parenting classes through our Family Support program.
